The 14th International Congress of the Geological Society of Greece, successfully completed its works and is now a historical event. In this great event of Geosciences, the highest expression of our Scientific Society, more than 500 participants, including more than 200 students and 80 young scientists, attended the congress’ works or specific sessions. 60% of young scientists, the future of geology. There were 259 new scientific papers presented, 170 oral presentations and 89scientific posters. Invited speakers, many Greeks and foreign colleagues, but especially young researchers, young scientists and PhD students, presented in the best possible way conclusions and results at the forefront of scientific research in the world today. Parallel events, such as the geological films screenings and “Round Tables” for Geosciences in Education, of the Greek Association of Geologists, for Active Faults, completed the strictly scientific presentations, where almost all objects of the wider circle of Geosciences converged, basic and applied. Once again the high level of research of Geoscientists was demonstrated. The Organizing Committee tried and organized in the best possible way the step of the Congress. But the Congress belongs to those that surround it, and participate in science development. The Congress belongs to all of you, and the organizers and the School of Geology of
the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki thank you very much. Our next big meeting is in Athens in 2019.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee

EGE2016 Online Scientific Program & Presentations/Posters Guidelines

The online version of EGE2016 program is available at This is an interactive page where anyone can find all oral and poster presentations, their allocated session and time, as well as view their abstracts. Author and keyword indexes are also available for browsing related presentations.

Please note that although every effort has been made to finalize this program, some changes may be made until the time of the congress. You are encouraged to check it regularly, as the online program will always be the latest one.

In case your presentation is a multi-authored one, you are also encouraged to set a speaker for it. To do so, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to using your existing account
  2. Change your role to “Author” (Click on EGE2016 / Change role / Author)
  3. By clicking on “My Submissions”, you will view your submitted paper(s)
  4. By clicking on “information” next to each paper, you will be transferred to the paper information page
  5. On the upper right side of your screen, there is a list of available options. Click on “Program”
  6. You will now see the schedule for your paper (session, time, session chairs etc.)
  7. By clicking on the “Speaker” field you may choose which one of the co-authors will be the presenting one. After pressing “Save”, the information will be updated and the speaker will be visible in subsequent program updates.

Please also note that there are a few papers for which the reviewing process is still under way. They have been included in the program, however their status may change upon the results of the process.

Guidelines for presentations

All presentation slides have to be prepared in English, which is the official language of EGE2016. This means that all text, figures, tables, diagrams etc. in the slides must be in English.

The presentation may however be delivered orally by the speaker in either English or Greek.

Poster presentations must be in English.

Oral Presentations

The allocated time for oral presentations will be 15 minutes in total. This includes time for the presenter to be introduced, present his/her contribution, answer a number of questions, and do any wrap-up. Therefore, presenters should plan their actual presentation for no more than 12 minutes. There is a tight schedule and it is important that each presenter stay within the time limit. Presenters will have access to a PC-compatible (no Mac) laptop with LCD projector.

Please, bring your PowerPoint presentation to the meeting on a flash drive to load on the in-room laptops. You will not be able to use your own laptop for your presentation. You can load your presentation on one of the conference laptops before the first session, or during the breaks preceding your presentation. A support staff member will be in each room to assist with the loading.

Poster Presentations

For each poster, individual display boards will be allocated. The maximum poster size is A0 (1189 mm height x 841 mm width). The preferred poster format is in portrait mode (i.e. height larger than width). It is advisable to hang the posters sometime before 9:00 a.m. the day of the respective session if possible. Posters will need to be taken down by the end of the day of each session. Presenters are kindly requested to be at the Poster Hall next to their posters during the Poster Sessions at the end of each day (see the Program for the exact timing).

Call for Special Sessions

The Congress is seeking original high quality Special Sessions addressing innovative research and/or specific geographic areas in the broad field of Earth Sciences. We wish to highlight significant and emerging areas of the main research fields, but also focus on specific problem of certain areas. Interdisciplinary session themes will be highly regarded.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to the fields of the “Subjects-Themes” section above. Special session proposals should be submitted using the appropriate form that can be found in the Congress’s site (

Each special session is expected to consist of at least 6 papers and will be chaired by two organizers. The organizers’ role is to attract the speakers and chair the session itself. Proposals will be evaluated based on the timeliness of the topic, relevance to the Congress’s thematic fields, the degree to which they will bring together key researchers in the area, introduce the area to the larger research community, further develop the area and potentials to establish a larger community around the area. Please note that all papers in the proposed session will undergo the same review process as regular papers. If after the reviewing process less than the necessary number of papers solicited for a special session is selected, the Special Session will be cancelled and the solicited papers that passed review process will be presented within regular sessions of the conference.

The following information should be included in the proposal:

  • Title of proposed session.
  • An introduction stating the importance of the topic and the rationale for the proposed session.
  • Organizers (including contact information).
  • List of potential submissions if available.

Deadline for special session proposals: May 15, 2015.
